My first expert

This post is dedicated to my Mom and today being the Mother’s day I talked to her patiently and tried to understand her concerns after a long time. I left my home after completing 10th grade and started living in a hostel while preparing for JEE. I will always remember that I used to fail whenever I tried to lie to her. For instance, when I was out with my friends playing counter strike at Reliance WebWorld, no matter how much I tried she would instantly know that I am lying about my whereabouts. After many such failures, I simply stopped trying because I had learnt that there is no way around it. Thus, I started speaking out the truth. Not to my mother, but my father instead. I know that this must be quite opposite to what most people do, but for me convincing my father has always been easier.

My mother has been an expert teacher for me literally. She not only helped me learn that the letter B comes after the letter A in English alphabet, but she also straightened me and guided me whenever I made the wrong choices. And she did all of this while managing the house and completing all the chores. Now that I think of it, if I had to cook food, teach children in school for 6 hours, keep the house clean and manage clothes for everyone, I would hardly have any energy left. But even today she manages all of that on her own.
While watching the India’s got talent show on television yesterday, I was again reminded of the ways in which my mother took care of multiple tasks at once. As the anchor talked about Goddess Durga and her multiple capabilities, I was recalling all the tasks that my mother have been completing since so many years without any fail. No wonder our mothers are able to take care of us while managing their own job and the complete household.

Another experience that refreshed some memories of mine was watching the movie Piku. I never thought that emotions could be so well related to motion. The movie simply portrayed the common yet complex situations we face with our families and successfully puts across the importance of relationships. Especially the relationships that we share with our older generation. No matter how open minded or educated they are, there is always a gap that we need to bridge. I have certainly learned a lot from this movie and I am sure that these learning will help me in future. Now that I am working as a Senior Systems Engineer and hardly have time to sit idle and meditate, I think there is certainly a need for increasing my threshold of patience and this movie has helped me get one step closer to that goal.

Following is a picture of me with my mother. This one was clicked by my father when I got back from school:

Another emotive movie: Koizora

Movie poster
Another Asian movie that can be regarded as tear-jerking. If you like emotional movies and have enough patience to let yourself dissolve into the story, then Koizora is your type. It is not a comedy or action film, but simply an affectional romantic flick.

Note: Following content may contain Spoilers
The movie is about a shy girl  who falls in love with a guy who started calling her on phone as a stranger. Even though she acted reluctant at first, the guy was able to win her heart easily. There are some turns and twists after this. The boy stays by her side and decides to marry her after knowing that she was carrying their child. Though, the baby is no more as she falls down after getting pushed by the guy’s ex-girlfriend. The girl and her lover decides to visit this place every year in memory of their lost child (where they lay the flowers presented by the guy on their first meet).
The guy breaks up with the girl and keeps avoiding her until she gets to know about his disease. A friend of the guy who came at the decided place on behalf of him, reveals the truth.
The guy dies eventually while calling the girl’s name as he sees her through the video call made via phone. He cherished his last moments with his love and wrote in his diary that he will always take care of her by becoming the sky.
The girl decides to live a happy life, while loving… the sky.

Aarakshan: Education is not a business

Aarakshan is one of the movies that I consider intellective. Even though I was told by most of my colleagues that the movie is bogus, they could not change my decision to watch it.

I think that in spite of a few flaws, the theme and concept of the movie made it commendable. The topic which has never been portrayed in this fashion before was brilliantly presented. The best thing about the movie was that it was not biased and the arguments of both sides were demonstrated equally.

I for one had always thought that the high percentage of reserved seats for minority is not fair, but after considering the facts that I came across in this movie I had to doubt my opinion. Especially the speech given by the character ‘Deepak’ was quite prestigious considering the history of our nation. Although it is agreeable that the conditions are not same anymore and reservation has indeed made many meritorious students suffer, but this is probably because of the wrong use of the law. Probably the main thing to be considered for someone to deserve a reservation should be his economic conditions and not merely his caste.

I completely agree with the character played by Mr. Amitabh which was very strong and impregnable. From his voice to the slightest of his expressions, everything was just top-drawer. Well this post is not just about him as we don’t need to specify reasons for the success of the “King of Bollywood”.

Besides, most of the actors played their roles the right way. For instance, the emotional scenes were well handled by Deepika Padukone. When her character apologises to her father, it depicted the intuitiveness of father-child relationship. Also the chemistry with her boyfriend was pictured substantially.

There are a lot of things in the movie that can make you introspect and cerebrate. One just needs to keep his mind open enough to allow the light to enter from all sides. This is a perfect example of how patience, faith and determination are necessary to live a respectful life. I cannot promise that these things will eventually lead to a happy ending like that showed in the movie, but will sure give mental peace and satisfaction. Because money is not just everything and no matter how many difficulties we are facing, we have some duty towards our mother-land.

The brain drain has caused huge loss to our country as most of the prominent Indians are working for foreign companies. And the blame is then put on the conditions here like “reservations” and “corruption”. But we should ask ourselves this question, “When a part of our body is in pain, do we cut it away or take medicine?” Instead of continuously complaining about it, we should do something about it. I know this is a very old line which we hear every day. But there is a difference between hearing and listening and the day one listens to it, he or she will know which road is supposed to be taken.

Some people complained that the movie did not live up to its title as the thing about reservations was not showcased much after the interval. But a title does not decide whether a movie is good or not. The other concept considered here is as important as the first one. These days, education has become a business and we all are a part of this industry, wearing out ourselves without realising the downsides of it.

These people who like movies like “Ready” more, should explain that how such a movie is even slightly related to its title. I am not saying here that ‘Ready’ was a bad movie. There are different genres and it sure was a good comedy; but I just couldn’t argue with these people and explain to them why this movie should not be called Bogus. Maybe I don’t need to and should just try and live the right way.

P.S.: Education should never be made a Business

Review: 200 Pounds Beauty

The Korean movies can definitely make you feel nostalgic! Yet another emotional cum comedy movie is “200 Pounds Beauty“. It is about a fat girl who used to sing at the back while a good-looking girl just had to pretend like she was singing on stage. This way, people loved her voice but adored the girl in front.

She goes through a whole body plastic surgery when she is no longer able to resist the criticism; gets beautiful but is not satisfied with herself as she has to lie and wear a mask all the time. She ends up telling the world about it, at her concert and brings the people face to face with the harsh reality of unfavorable judgments made by everyone.

This movie does tell us the importance of innocence over beauty; truth over lie; love over selfishness and relations over money!

P.S.: Another excellent motion picture which makes your heart pound!

Pay it forward!

There are a few movies, which can make you change the way you think about this world. One among those is “Pay it forward”. This movie starts off with a very basic idea, “what does this world expect from you?” That is actually a question asked by a social science teacher to his 6th grade students, and an 11 year old kid answers innocently, “nothing”! Well, that’s what this movie is about.
Before cursing this world you are living in, you just need to think once, “What have you done for it?”

The kid comes up with a revolutionary idea called, ‘Pay it forward’ according to which he helps three persons in doing something they are not able to do. In this materialistic world, nobody expects anything even from their relatives. However, this movie tells you about the good deeds people have been doing for complete strangers.

We are often told by many people that we shouldn’t stick our nose in other people’s matter and mind our own business. Nevertheless, that should not be always true, even though there are so many bad things going on, we still have people who will pick up a kid, who fell off his bicycle and take him home.

In life, there are times when someone does something good for you without any reason. It can be a favor as small as giving you a lift. And you never get a chance to pay back. Well here is the chance for you then, just join the movement called, “Pay it forward”.

You might have come across the famous “member making schemes (MMS)” being adopted by a lot of companies these days. People will do anything to convince you to make you join the scheme for their profit. However, I am not talking about profit here. This movement gives you NO GUARANTEE of getting paid back. The only reason you do it is that you think you can make this world better as it is said, “World is not completely, shit!”.

Here is what you need to do:

Just help 3 people, get them help 3 people, start a movement!

In a way you will be paying back to the people who might have helped you in some stage of your life. And even if you think that you were never helped by anyone, which is quite impossible, you should do it as you will be ‘paying it forward’ in the genuine sense then.

If you have any doubt, just watch the movie and if you need to start, visit:

P.S. = Please try to do something real big, which can make the person change his/her life by getting rid of his biggest problem. This will require a lot of courage and confidence. It might be hard, but it is POSSIBLE!

Just watched the movie “hangman”(India), too much of emotional stuff! I am sure most of us won’t be able to stand it because even I wanted to throw out the CD, at the beginning! The feelings of parents are very well depicted!
And the thing that makes this movie unique is that the ending wasn’t altered even though such things are very indifferent in Indian movies.
The theme is good and message is passed quite well to the audience.

My advice to all my friends:
“just try not to get in to stuff! If you can watch this movie, you will realize how wrong you can be!”

Rotten Tomatoes: Scarface Movie Review by kushalashok

When I watched Scarface, I got greatly influenced by it. The Great Al Pacino, who is admired by the Bollywood king Amitabh Bachan himself became my role model. His style and acting just carried me away.

Talking about the character he played in this movie, I learned a lot from it. And all I would write here is:
“All that I came into this world with are my balls and my words”

Yes, we should live up to our words and always speak the truth. And success will be on our side.
I would suggest you to watch this movie as soon as you can.

Rotten Tomatoes: The Happening Movie Review by kushalashok

I watched this movie yesterday.
Although the producer and director is an oscar nominee, but i have to say that this one wasnt as satisfactory as his previous films. The picturisation was excellent but i was unable to understand certain things about the film.
Like i am still unable to undersatand that what was it causing all those deaths.

And how could be a man tempted to kill himself by any possible measure.

Overall I cant give this movie a rating of 3 out of 5 stars.

They also tried to confuse with the heroin’s character, by showing her psycho behaviour and hatred towards her in Hero’s friend’s mind.

If anyone among you can describe these things to me.. I would liketo change my rating!!
